The other day I went to the food and water first event that was very well attended in Honeywood and while I was there I saw this booth that was enticing people to try the self guided GPS Tour of North Dufferin County! How cool is that, you can see where the Defeated Mega Quarry would have been if it was approved and the awesome countryside views.
So what is the GPS Tour and Scavenger Hunt all about? It was created as a way to encourage understanding and exploration of our beautiful and precious farmland and water. That’s IT! and a fun way to spend the afternoon with the family or a great way to get to know an area while driving and from time to time stopping and checking out the sites.
NDACT invites you to take the “Food & Water First” GPS Tour of North Dufferin County. Visit the beautiful Roof of Ontario which is home to the province’s best farmland, along with river valleys, rolling hills and dense woodlands. It is also the site of the recent battle to stop the Highland Mega Quarry. Trace the footprint of the 2,300-acre quarry and see the rare vegetable land that was saved. The GPS Tour can take as little as 2 hours or as long as you want. Spring, summer, fall and winter – every time you take the tour, you’ll discover something new!
what might you see on your scavenger hunt and GPS tour?
look for the following; horse, dog, sheep, tractor, truck, stop sign, wagon, traffic light, red barn, fire hall, old fashioned windmill, french fry stand, pioneer cemetery, stone buildings & wrought iron gate, bobolink, ball diamond, dry stone wall, dead animal on the road, waterfall, potato warehouse, 10 food and water first signs, stone gargoyle, blue and white bathtub filled with flowers and the big jackpot…..COWBOY in a white hat and pink shirt..LOL
So with all that said, hit the road and head for the Hills of Headwaters!
